These portraits capture the spiritual essence of India’s Hindu people. When looking into the eyes of the Hindus it is easy to recognize the beauty and the soul that resides within each person.

The Hindus embody peace and acceptance in a country that still lives under the caste system. The caste or Jati system was described in ancient Hindu text (the Rig Veda) as a social order intended to maintain harmony in society. Instead, this system finished by creating strict divisions within the population. Though discrimination based on castes has been outlawed in 1950, the practice still pervades society.

India’s fragmented society makes up an exquisite palette of faces, each with its own story and all contributing as a part of this country, where harmony is created by diversity.
