Holy Cow !

"One should understand and accept the cows in the street as yet another
paradox of contemporary India." (Anonymous)

This series of “Cow funny moments” photographed in Goa, is a tribute to this sacred animal, which I encountered wandering in the streets, on beaches, munching on fruit in market stalls, and causing traffic jams at major intersections. Mostly peaceful and always intriguing, cows are everywhere in India. I decided to document the cows in order to highlight the normalcy of their presence in the bustle of Indian life.

To the millions of Hindus living in India the cow is a gift from the Gods and as a holy animal it cannot be harmed. Cows are considered to be living symbols of the divine Mother that sustains all human beings with five sacred gifts: milk, curds, ghee butter, urine, and dung. It is also believed that all the Hindu Gods reside within the body of the cows, therefore by feeding and caring for them a person is able to make amends for their sins and will always be protected and content.

These entertaining images of the wondering sacred cows can only be…”Made in India”.
